Thursday marked Opening Day for the New York Yankees as they took on the Rival Houston Astros in a four game set. Houston and the Yankees have had quite a bit of history over the past few years as the Astros have knocked the Yankees out of the Playoffs in 2017, 2019, and 2022, seeming to always have the Yankees number, however that wasn't the case on this opening weekend.

Every game of this 4 game series would end up with the Yankees pulling out a miraculous win, that they likely wouldn't have pulled off in years prior. From being down, 4-0 in the 5th inning Thursday, 1-0 in the 7th on Friday, 3-1 in the 7th on Saturday, and tied in the 9th inning on Sunday, all four games were won by clutch hitting late in the game.

Both Juan Soto, and surprisingly, Oswaldo Cabrera would have a crucial part of the Yankees thrilling wins this weekend. Soto, would hit .529 in the series with a HR and 4 RBIs, capitalized by a huge RBI single to give the Yankees the lead in the 9th inning on Sunday. As Oswaldo Cabrera would end the series hitting .438 with 2 HRs and 6 RBI delivering a game tying hit in the 7th inning in all three games from Thursday to Saturday.

Some other notable performances from the series were Anthony Volpe who hit a slashline of .400/.571/.800 including a homerun in the 3 games he played, Marcus Stroman who threw 6 innings on Saturday, allowing 2 runs (both unearned), and Anthony Rizzo, who went 4-15 with two walks, a double, and an RBI single.

The Yankees continue their season with a 3 game set in Arizona, against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
